Airbus Defense and Space, Inc. in North America (ADSI) is looking for an experienced Satellite Design Engineer to support our Space Programs line of business. Reporting to the Head of US Space Programs, the Satellite Design Engineer will be responsible for satellite design activities for a medium sized, mass produced satellite based on the satellite designed and manufactured by OneWeb Satellites, a Joint Venture of Airbus Defense and Space Inc.  

 Primary Responsibilities:

  1. 65%
  • Customize the OneWeb manufactured satellite platform marketed as the ARROW platform to meet customer requirements
    • Develop system level requirements and requirement flow-down to the various disciplines, subsystems, and components - in all phases of the systems development lifecycle with particular emphasis on Design to Cost/Design for Manufacturability approaches
    • Ensure the maximum reuse of the existing ARROW product and if necessary identify need for modification
  • Ability to drive multiple design activities (programs or mission) could lead to spacecraft, payload, satellite bus, ground system (control and user segments) and/or launch integration activities.
  • Demonstrated ability to participate in cross-functional planning, coordination, and task execution situations involving the full spectrum of system engineering and integration activities.
  1. 15%
  • Define and own the ARROW development product roadmap: includes design adjustments, schedule, and cost targets aligned for future business captures.
  • Support the definition of ARROW customization process for customer mission needs
  1. 10%
  • Perform all the necessary engineering activities to build, to maintain and to develop an ARROW product to promote and optimize cost of OneWeb platform reuse for constellation prospect.

Qualified Experience / Skills / Training: 



  • Bachelor's degree in STEM (Science, Technical, Engineering, Math) or related scientific areas or combination of education and experience.


  • A minimum of ten (10) years' experience required in space systems engineering Satellite and/or Ground Systems (structures, avionics, propulsion, power, thermal, assembly/integration/test, sensors, flight software, Telemetry, Tracking & Control, user terminals, flight planning and mission management).
  • Proven track-record of working with satellite systems, starting from conceptual designs and tradeoffs through detailed design, development, manufacture, integration, and test.
  • Manufacturing experience highly desirable.

Knowledge, Skills, Demonstrated Capabilities:

  • Familiarity with elements of space mission architectures extending beyond the satellite platform including launch, flight operations, mission CONOPS, user interfaces, etc.
  • Good working knowledge of MS Office applications.
  • Communicate in a clear and concise manner effectively across multiple levels.
  • Be team-minded and ready to work in a multi-functional and multi-cultural, fast-moving and complex/technical environment.
  • Flexible attitude and strong initiative.
  • Demonstrated ability to deliver results.

Communication Skills (Spoken, Written, Influencing, Proficiency in Other Languages):

  • Excellent listening, comprehension & interpersonal skills as responsible for daily communication via email and phone calls required.
  • Excellent analytical, interpersonal, communication (verbal/writing), and presentation skills.

Travel Required:

  • 50% Domestic and International


  • US citizenship is required


  • Ability to obtain and maintain a Government security clearance at the facility clearance level


  • Depending on the candidate's experience, we are open to location and will not necessarily require this candidate to reside in Northern Virginia.
