Position Summary: The Sr Software Engineer will lead and execute the Space Systems software development and be responsible for all satellite flight software and simulation/test software design and development activities, ensuring that software architectures/designs and their corresponding implementations are well-suited and validated for deployment in US Government constellations.  The Sr Software Engineer will be the primary authority on technical approach, technical decision making, assigning work, and communicating results for all flight and simulation/test software development.


Primary Responsibilities:

  1. 65%
  • Develop software for new spacecraft designs and to accommodate a variety of new mission payloads onto heritage Airbus spacecraft platforms, including ARROW
    • Develop the technical vision and strategies of the software development program
    • Provide technical leadership and drive software development execution
  • Plan, coordinate, execute full spectrum of software engineering and integration activities
    • Guide and direct the internal/external software development resources in key development activities such as:
      • Design and development of a payload interface unit software architecture
      • Update/refactoring of exiting bus software to align with a new US-Gov't-centric system architecture
      • Design and develop the software framework necessary to support the accommodation of multiple payload and mission types onto the AirbusUS platforms
    • Provide software engineering inputs to gate and independent reviews as necessary
  • Collaborate effectively with partners, teammates, and payload suppliers
  • Coordinate with the Program Managers regarding software development budget and schedule
  • Provide software engineering support for proposal development
  1. 25%
  • Coordinate with the US Government to perform any required software audits/accreditations.
  • Lead the ARROW software development roadmap for planned product improvement spirals to meet rising demand of diverse Intelligence and Defense missions for the US Government. This includes design adjustments, schedule, and cost targets aligned for future business opportunities
  • Improve the software development aspects of the ARROW product customization process

Additional Responsibilities:   10%

  • Travel to industry conferences to gain insight in industry trends
  • Other projects as assigned

Qualified Experience / Skills / Training: 



Required: Bachelor's degree in STEM (Science, Technical, Engineering, Math) or related scientific areas or combination of education and experience.

Preferred: Master's degree in STEM (Science, Technical, Engineering, Math) or related scientific areas or combination of education and experience.



  • 10 years of experience required in engineering for satellite systems with a Bachelor's degree, or 8 years of experience with a Master's degree
  • Proven track-record of working with satellite systems, starting from conceptual designs and tradeoffs through detailed design, development, manufacture, integration, and test
  • Design for Manufacturing (DFM)/Design for Test (DFT) experience highly desirable

Knowledge, Skills, Demonstrated Capabilities:

  • Mastery of software architecture development
  • Ability to lead software developers involved in multiple projects
  • Experience in performing Mission Architecture & CONOPS analysis
  • Familiarity with elements of space mission architectures extending beyond the satellite platform including launch, flight operations, mission CONOPS, user interfaces, etc
  • Proposal support experience 
  • Be ready to lead a multi-functional and multi-cultural, fast-moving and complex/technical environment
  • Flexible attitude and strong initiative
  • Demonstrated ability to deliver results

Communication Skills (Spoken, Written, Influencing, Proficiency in Other Languages):

  • Excellent listening, comprehension & interpersonal skills as responsible for daily communication via email and phone calls
  • Excellent analytical, interpersonal, communication (verbal/writing), and presentation skills

Technical Systems Proficiency:

  • Proficiency with the overall satellite system development process along with specific knowledge of the software development processes and techniques
  • Proficiency with MS Office applications

Travel Required:

  • Primary location is either Rosslyn, VA or Merritt Island, FL
  • If VA based, infrequent travel to Merritt Island, FL to work alongside OneWeb Satellites engineering staff
  • If FL based, infrequent travel to DC area to coordinate with VA-based team and present to various customers and mission partners
  • Infrequent international travel to collaborate with European Airbus counterparts
  • Possibility for on-site support during launch campaigns


  • US citizenship is required



  • Ability to obtain and maintain a Government security clearance at the facility clearance level
  • Active DoD security clearance at Secret or above highly desirable.
