Position Summary

The Director, Business Management U.S. Space Systems, reports to the Head of U.S. Space Systems, serving as the "down and in" focus of the Space Line of Business (LOB) on business and operational matters.


Responsibilities

As the Director, Business Management U.S. Space Systems, you will:

  • Act as delegate for the Head of U.S. Space Systems, for Space LOB business and operational matters, to ensure Space LOB is successful in meeting milestones and goals
  • Collaborate closely with the Space LOB leadership and their teams, to assist them in growing and scaling their capabilities, and implementing LOB operational objectives and policies, freeing them up to drive execution and growth strategies, and create environment to support a balanced portfolio of execution and growth.
  • Facilitate cross-functional collaboration and act as a delegate and intermediate escalation path between Space LOB and support functions across the company to ensure program execution, business and operational needs are understood and met in a timely manner
  • Act as delegate and intermediate escalation path with subcontractors and Airbus affiliates to resolve bottlenecks on behalf of the Space LOB, working closely with the Space LOB leadership and their teams, and operations, to ensure successful program execution
  • Credibly drive and resolve key operational and programmatic topics/risks; present topics at board level
  • Catalyze problem solving and conflict resolution related to organizational issues, resource gaps, business and program execution needs.
  • Evaluate internal resources, processes and tools in collaboration with the support functions across the company, to assess current status, planned implementations and continuous improvement as applied to the Space LOB needs. Identify gaps, propose and align on solutions, and drive plans to ensure that the results meet the Space LOB needs.
  • Work with Space LOB leadership to refine and manage leading metrics and key performance indicators; define and implement a visible, compelling Space LOB scoreboard that drives visibility, engagement, accountability and commitment across internal stakeholders; and ensure continuous improvement.
  • Aggregate and maintain regular business and operational reviews, on appropriate cadence. Work collaboratively with teams on desired outcomes and committed actions to drive down risks across the Space LOB programs
  • Prepare internal communication and materials for LOB reporting, including routine (weekly, monthly and quarterly) reports, board presentations, and executive management and board approvals
  • Be the strategic lead and/or act as project/program manager on a variety of special projects and initiatives as needed

Education Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in aerospace engineering or related engineering or technical field relevant to the space and defense industry
  • Master's degree preferred, in engineering, systems, relevant technical field, or business

Required Experience

  • 15+ years' experience in space program management and execution with progressive increasing roles of responsibility. Hands-on experience in satellite manufacturing and integration and/or space-related business operations a plus.
  • Demonstrated performance in executing space programs on time, budget and quality
  • Experience in U.S. government, civil and/or commercial space programs, with familiarity of USG contracting and of commercial contracting with the USG
  • Experience working with international partners (government or industry) and foreign language (French, German) a plus

Security Clearance

  • The ability to obtain and maintain government security clearance required
  • Active Secret clearance, with ability to secure and maintain a TS/SCI clearance preferred

Location and Travel

  • Full -time presence in Washington DC metro area preferred. Merritt Island, FL; Denver, CO; Houston, TX optional.
  • Travel domestically and internationally required, ~30-40%
