Position Responsibilities:


Subcontractor Quality Management: 30%

The Quality Engineer will contribute to the development and maintenance of a highly effective and reactive quality system, through proactive communication and documentation. Activities will include:

  • Nonconformity review, analysis, and correction/corrective action approval and documentation
  • Hands-on, on-site subcontractor quality management related to product and processes
  • Liaison between subcontractor and Airbus U.S. technical authority
  • Review of End Item Data Packages and participate in Delivery Review Board
  • Organize and perform subcontractor audits, including sub-tier suppliers when needed.

System Safety and Quality Documentation Management: 30%

The Quality Engineer will lead the review of engineering documentation and provide proactive feedback to support effective configuration management and documentation consistency.

  • Review Engineering Drawings and other technical documents, in support of System Safety and Quality management. Ensure company standards are maintained and respected.
  • Ensure Space Vehicle manufacturing processes are safely executed
  • Create and execute launch site inspection procedures to verify Space Vehicles are ready for launch.
  • Support Materials & Processes and Mission Assurance reviews
  • Provide input to configuration change board

QMS Implementation and Auditing (30%)

The Quality Engineer will provide support to the definition and implementation of a Quality Management System (QMS) elements including Quality policy and procedures. Support internal and external audits for Airbus US conformity to the AS9100 standard.


Additional Responsibilities (10%)

Other duties as assigned:

Qualified Experience / Skills / Training:


Education:

  • Required: Bachelor's degree in Engineering/Science or related field or equivalent experience
  • Preferred: Master's degree in Engineering/Science or related field or equivalent experience

Experience:

  • Required:
    • A minimum of 3 years with a bachelor's degree, or 1 year with a master's degree
    • Experience with verification and validation planning and execution of aerospace products
    • Familiarity with Systems Safety Management

  • Preferred:
    • Experience with Government programs and execution
    • Experience in the Aerospace and/or Space industry

Licensure/Certifications:

  • Preferred: AS9100 (Lead) auditor certification

Knowledge, Skills, Demonstrated Capabilities:

  • Communicate in a clear and concise manner effectively across multiple levels.
  • Be team-minded and ready to work in a multi-functional and multi-cultural, fast-moving and complex/technical environment.
  • Flexible attitude and strong initiative.
  • Demonstrated ability to deliver results.
  • Able to manage multiple priorities with potentially conflicting timelines
  • Familiarity with elements of space mission architectures extending beyond the satellite platform - including launch, flight operations, mission CONOPS, user interfaces, etc.

Communication Skills (Spoken, Written, Influencing, Presentation, Proficiency in Other Languages):

  • Excellent communication skills required, frequent interaction with internal as well as external stakeholders is required.

Technical Systems Proficiency:

  • Advanced proficiency required in MS Excel, MS Powerpoint.

Travel Required:

  • 20% Domestic & International to support
    • Quality Audits at subcontractor facilities
    • Support launch operations at launch facilities
    • Attend reviews and meetings at HQ in Arlington, VA

Clearance:


  • Ability to obtain and maintain a Secret Security Clearance required

Decision Making, Complexity:

  • Will be required to make decisions in complex technical environments. Will be required to identify information gaps and pursue the collection of additional information needed to be able to make decisions.

Nature of Contacts:

Role includes involved, influence and negotiation type communication with internal and external parties on a regular basis.


Physical Requirements:

  • Onsite: 80 %
  • Vision: able to see and read computer screen and other electronic equipment with screens, able to read documents.
  • Hearing: able to hear to participate in conversations in person and via teleconference or phone and to hear sounds including safety warnings or alarms.
  • Speaking: able to speak in conversations, deliver information and participate in communications.
  • Equipment Operation (personal computer, telephone, copies, fax machine, and related office equipment and using electronic identification card to enter building floors and internal doors): able to operate most office and personal electronic equipment
  • Carrying: able to carry documents, electronic equipment and/or supplies up to 40lbs/9kg
  • Lifting: able to lift documents, electronic equipment and/or supplies up to 40lbs/9kg.
  • Pushing / Pulling: able to push/pull items in office areas.
  • Sitting: able to sit for long periods of time in meetings, working on computer.
  • Squatting / Kneeling: able to occasionally squat or kneel to retrieve or replace items shelved on bottom shelves
  • Standing: able to stand for long periods of time.
  • Walking: able to walk through office and outside areas including uneven surfaces.
